Montessori School of Huntsville, Head of School

The Head of School, guided by the goals and policies established by the Board of Directors, will oversee the successful operation of the programs and activities of the school and shall ensure consistency with the Montessori philosophy, principle and methods. The primary objective of the Head of School is to uphold the mission and goals of the school. The Head of School should serve as a centralizing leadership figure within the school and in the local community. The Head of School will work closely with, and report to, the Board of Directors. The Head of School is expected to build consensus among the teachers, staff, society members, and the Board. The Head of School should have a larger vision for the future direction of the school while continuing to support and encourage the preservation of the Montessori philosophy through the school.


  • Minimum of a B.A. degree;
  • Ability to meet the regulations set forth by the State Department of Human Resources for a center director per the Minimum Standards Manual dated January 22, 2001;
  • Previous experience working in a Montessori school;
  • A passionate commitment to Montessori education;
  • Proven experience with staff supervision and a track record for creating collaborative, positive work environments;
  • Prior experience with planning, implementing, and balancing a school budget;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to lead in fund development, including identification, cultivation, and stewardship of donors;
  • Familiarity with non-profit organization and operation;
  • Outstanding human resource skills


  • Completion of the Montessori Head of School training program;
  • Experience as an Administrator or Head of School with demonstrated leadership qualities;
  • Basic accounting and business skills.
