Job Title: Early Childhood Montessori Co-Teacher

Description: We are looking for an experienced Early Childhood Montessori lead teacher who will direct the children’s activities academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach his or her fullest potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with Montessori philosophy.

The successful candidate must love and respect children, exhibit leadership qualities, have a sense of humor, be friendly and work cooperatively with teams, must be self motivated and have the personality to motivate others, and must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines. This position requires a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with a continual need for tact and diplomacy, must be able to manage a wide variety of personalities. Must have excellent decision-making skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Prepare and organize the learning environment to meet the needs and interests of the children as well as promote independence.

• Focus on the children, not on teachers teaching

• Through careful observation and planning, remain constantly alert to the direction each child is heading and actively works to help them succeed.

• In an atmosphere of calm, order and joy, help and encourage the children in all their efforts, allowing them to develop self-confidence and inner discipline.

• With the younger students at each level, be more active, demonstrate the use of materials and present activities based on an assessment of the child’s requirements.

• Children at all levels of Montessori education should be actively engaged by the teacher in the learning process which enhances critical thinking skills.

• Present brief and precise, clear, interesting and relevant lessons, to intrigue the minds of children and encourage further practice or self-directed study.

• Model desirable behavior and evaluate each child’s individual progress.

• Respect and protect the students’ independence, support and encourage them without the use of rewards or punishments.

• Facilitate effective communication and peace education; consistently work to teach courteous behaviors and pro-social conflict resolution skills.

Qualifications and Skills

• Associate or Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Early Childhood or Elementary Education)

• AMS or AMI Montessori Credential in Early Childhood (3-6)

• Writing, Communication, Computer Skills

• 3+ years of Montessori Classroom Experience
